Home Moxa Use

Have available a small bowl of water, a lit candle, tweezers or hemostats. A location with good ventilation is ideal. Burns and ash are a reality of things that are on fire - use care in choosing your surroundings.

1. remove the adhesive backing from the cardboard end of the moxa

2. using the tweezers or hemostats to hold the moxa stick, light the other end in the candle flame, holding there until it glows (you may need to blow on it a little)

3. place the adhesive end on the desired location

4. when it becomes noticeably hot or burns down to the cardboard remove it using the tweezers or hemostats and douse in the bowl of water

5. repeat 2-3 times on the same location

Adverse Reactions

As with all things, STOP taking herbs, using Moxa, doing whatever if you have an allergic reaction. If it's life threatening (e.g. anaphylaxis) seek emergency medical care straight away.

In the case of hives, sneezing, GI distress, or other allergy symptoms, STOP and contact Sharonne. She can trouble-shoot, perhaps modifying the formula.

Yes, Sharonne wants you to take herbs. No, Sharonne doesn't want you to "power through" and make yourself worse or give yourself another condition to address. Just STOP.

Cooking Raw Herbs

Raw herb formulas will require a stove top, water, a pot, a strainer, and a storage container.

1. Ideally, you will soak the herbs for a few hours in the pot with enough water to ensure nothing is exposed during cooking; this is usually around 3 cups of water but can vary.

2. If you are unable to soak, still add the herbs to a pot with enough water to ensure nothing is exposed during cooking; this is usually around 3 cups of water but can vary.

3. Heat the mixture to a boil and then turn down to a simmer for 25-30 minutes.

4. Strain and save the liquid into a container that can be stored in the refrigerator. Use care as the liquid will be very hot.

5. Return herbs to the pot and repeat steps 2-4, combining both sets of liquid.

6. Dispose of herbs and consume liquid portion as instructed.

Using Granules/Capsules

Capsules are filled with granules and you use them like any capsule or pill.

Granules without the capsule are like instant coffee; you need to mix with warm water and drink. The amount of water is generally up to you; bear in mind that they will unlikely taste "good" and most things dissolve better with warmer water.

Getting Raw Herbs

The majority of raw herb formulas are filled and shipped by Bastyr University's Chinese Dispensary in Seattle, WA. They can be reached at

(206) 834-4100 ext. 4169 or

bcnhchmdisp@bastyr.edu.

If you have a raw herb formula to fill, please contact them with your shipping and payment information after Sharonne lets you know your prescription has been sent.

Full Script for Capsules/Granules

Full Script allows me to send in a prescription that allows you to directly manage payment and shipping. Their hope is that you will switch all of your supplement orders to them which I leave to your discretion. I will use it for Capsules/Granules

1-866-807-3828 = Customer Service

You'll get an e-mail from me and their system can't handle the apostrophe in my last name so it will look like gobble-dee-gook. It'll have a box with something like "view my plan" or "access fullscript." Click here. There will then be a page with your name, the formula/s, some instructions from me, and dosage information. You will click on the "Add to Cart" button and then  "Continue to Check Out" - very much like most on-line retailers. I know they are trying to get you to buy more but PLEASE, do NOT select an auto-refill unless we've talked about that first and it's in your instructions from me. You'll then receive granules/capsules.
